Living To 100 On A Plant-Based Diet
Dr. Melissa Carr,B.Sc., Dr.TCM is a registered Dr. of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), educator, writer, and lecturer on natural health. She has taught nutrition at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, was a regular health topic columnist for 24 Hours Vancouver newspaper, and volunteered as an acupuncturist at Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. With a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and experience doing research at a medical school in Japan, she likes to blend east and west, conventional and alternative, art and
science into her practice.
In her talk, Dr. Carr will discuss the benefits of a plant-based diet for healthy longevity. Though she considers the word “diet” as a tainted 4-letter word, it’s possible to eat in a way that is achievable, delicious, and sustainable. Traditional Chinese Medicine emphasizes that food is medicine and food choices are healthiest when they are customized to the individual and changed with the seasons.
There is no one perfect diet for all. However, many population studies have found that eating more vegetables and whole foods and less processed and sugary foods holds great benefits, including living a longer life and managing or warding off many chronic illnesses. Dr. Carr will offer some simple solutions and recipes you can try out for yourself.
